AVEK Haarlem has been a household name in manufacturing products from wire and steel for over 50 years now. That is something we are very proud of! This is our history.
1966 – Founding of AVEK
AVEK Technische Verenfabriek is founded by three friends in 1966: Abels, Valk, and Koppen. The first springs are made by hand in the corner of a car shop. During their first year, they had to wait for customers to pay their invoices before they could buy the materials for the next order.
1970 – Fast-growing company
AVEK is growing fast, and the entire garage is soon filled with manufacturing machines.
1985 – Quality level
The market begins to show a growing need for increased quality control. AVEK becomes actively involved in this, developing a quality control system which massively improves the quality level in the following years.
1989 – New building
In 1989, AVEK moves into a large new building in the Waarderpolder in Haarlem.
1990 – Avek Haarlem
In 1990, the management decides that the company will have more growth opportunity if AVEK is acquired by an investment firm. Zweegers Beheer Group (ZBG) becomes the new owner, and the sons of founders Abels and Koppen are appointed as executive directors. AVEK undergoes explosive growth during this period, and takes on the adjacent building in 1997 to allow the company to grow on site. This is a good time to expand the name AVEK, turning it into AVEK Haarlem.
2001 – Family business
In 2001, ZBG decides that AVEK Haarlem no longer fits within the holding’s strategy. Ron Abels, director at the time, was given an opportunity to buy back the company. From that moment, AVEK Haarlem is a family business once again.
2011 – Third generation
In 2011, the company is taken over by the third generation—grandson Dennis Abels.
2017 – Anniversary and a new corporate identity
2016 is AVEK Haarlem’s 50-year anniversary. Time for celebrations. As the cherry on top, AVEK launches its new corporate identity in 2017.
